Our Executive Chairman Dr. B S Ajaikumar has been featured in the cover page of Health Care Radius Magazine

We are excited to inform that our Executive Chairman Dr. B S Ajaikumar has been featured in the cover story titled India’s Cancer Care Challenges in the Health Care Radius magazine November print edition.

In this exclusive interview, Dr. Ajaikumar discussed a range of critical topics shaping cancer care in India, including the collaboration between hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutions. He emphasized the importance of precision medicine, targeted therapies, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and genomics in advancing cancer treatment.

Dr. Ajaikumar highlighted the necessity of tailoring treatments to the individual needs of patients, especially in the diverse Indian population, through computational analyses and genomic data. He also underscored the potential of immunotherapy and targeted therapies, citing ongoing research into Indian-specific cancers, such as head and neck cancer, where 75% of tumors are found to be immunogenic.

Addressing the challenges faced by cancer care providers in India, he discussed the complexities of balancing state-of-the-art treatments with cost-effective solutions. He pointed out the difficulties in accessing government funding and the slow reimbursement process for private healthcare providers, which discourages expansion into tier-2 and tier-3 cities. He advocated for a universal healthcare system, like models in the U.S. and Brazil, which would ensure fair and timely reimbursements for cancer care, particularly for major surgeries. This system, he believes, would encourage private sector investment in underserved areas and contribute to a more equitable healthcare landscape.

Dr. Ajaikumar also outlined key policy reforms needed to improve access to quality cancer treatment across India. He called for greater government investment in healthcare, specifically through the use of funds from "sin taxes" on alcohol and tobacco, to establish a $150 billion healthcare system. He stressed the importance of developing a cohesive public-private partnership that focuses on prevention, early detection, and personalized treatments.
