Surgeries of the Liver, Pancreas, Biliary system are commonly termed as HPB surgeries. Procedures on these organs are technically demanding which require appropriate training.

Anatomy in this region is complex with variations in each patient.

Some conditions like uncomplicated pancreatitis need not require surgical intervention and need careful medical management. Some of the complications like pancreatic abscess, unresolving symptomatic pancreatic pseudocysts require surgery or interventions.

Procedures related to HPB system are: (can be done by open or laparoscopic technique and depends on several factors)

  • Liver resections(tumours, other diseases like complex cysts, cystadenoma, hemorrhagic adenomas etc.,)

  • Interventions on other conditions of the liver (cysts, abscesses etc.,)

  • Pancreatic resections (Whipple procedure: Pancreatoduodenectomy, Distal Pancreatectomy, Central Pancreatectomy, Pancreatic necrosectomy)

  • Biliary duct resections and operations for gall bladder diseases

  • Radiofrequency and Microwave ablation of the tumours of the liver

  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP) for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes on the biliary and pancreatic systems
